On ‘COLLAPSED LAKE’, all-star cassette buff TERESHKOVA presents a narrative cyclically traversing elements of pattern, harmony and timbre in a highly intuitive way. At one point, a rich chord slowly unfolds like day breaking, life forms growing, seeking the sun’s nourishing rays, only to suddenly collapse into a detuned, murky hum. Sharp synth blasts and dense chord clustering phases are contrasted with harmonium or flute sanctuaries, a full range of tone colors is rotated through several times, creating a situation in which musky, ambiguous timbres often form the prelude of bright repeating little melodies, music box-like segments of sweetness before they dissolve again into bubbling sweeps, flat horns, guitar-powered fuzz-outs and at one point even something on the edge of materializing into a dub techno vignette.
