Inspired by an intense period of introspection, solitude, and sobriety, Ryann Gonsalves’s first full-length album follows a journey both hyper-personal and deeply relatable. “Ouch!” is a collection of songs that embody vulnerability, self-reflection, and ultimately, self-love.
Playful, intimate, unguarded — but grounded — these songs were written over the course of a month in her apartment in Oakland, CA. She then teamed up with Rick Altieri of Blue Ocean, who recorded, mixed, and mastered the tracks in their shared practice space. Throughout “Ouch!” Ryann layers her melodies with floating harmonies and stripped-down guitar, bass, and drum arrangements, while Rick energizes and adds texture to the recordings with synth pads and pedals.
“Ouch!” follows Ryann’s self-titled EP, a 6-song tape of self-recorded demos reaching back many years and released by Discontinuous Innovation in 2022. Ryann Gonsalves is also the frontperson of Torrey and performs with Aluminum and Reality TV. Out now on Dandy Boy Records.
