Part beat tape, part remix album, ‘Demos, Dubplates, & Sureshots’ is a collection of Glenn Echo creations that were sitting in the vault. Some of these demos evolved into cuts on “What Happened to Yesterday? Vol 1 and Vol 2” and others were just dope beats that Glenn cooked up over the past year or two that never found their way onto a record. Glenn took some of these ideas and dubbed them out further for this release (Sammy and Julien; Youths of Today; Wha Dis?). Many others morphed into cheeky vocal dubplates (Change the Beat; Get Dis Money; Kryptonite and more), presented here in their vocal and instrumental formats. And finally, there are some dub versions of previously released tunes.
The (limited!) cassette release features even more dub versions (from the “Partly Cloudy” LP), more rap and R&B acapellas over smokey Glenn Echo soundscapes, and other bits and pieces that are not available individually. Glenn went in on this mix in a way that is rare today but was common back in the day when DJs spent time and energy carefully crafting mixtapes to showcase their style. Tip! Out now on Sol Power Sound.
