‘Mathème’ is a study in the palimpsest nature of memory; a decaying architecture in continual shifting recreation, constructed of opaque sound fragments, recontextualized and combined to create nonlinear narratives of dream logic. These liminal collages reflect and amplify the intractable gulf between signifier and signified. Here, the piano is not a piano, it is the swell of the tide; a thunderstorm manifests its stochastic elements inside of an underground train, around boot steps on frozen ground. Sonic textures woven into a mirage of near melodies swirl around the tender pre-lingual sound of an infant’s voice.
