From the misty, old growth forests of Maine comes a new game soundtrack from The Spookfish. Dan Goldberg, the musician known as The Spookfish, weaves an eerily relaxing sonic web with woozy, wobbling synths and a broken, finger-picked guitar that dances like 8 legged creatures all moving towards the same goal for Rebel Jester’s newest creation titled “To The Flame”. The game depicts a gothic journey of a moth bounding towards the light from the dark depths of a cavern. The neon tinged, mournful melodrama emerged from an evening spent watching local dungeon synth artists, Deep Gnome and Covered Bridges, at a Psychic Sounds event in a barn on the Maine coast with Ezra Szanton, one half of Rebel Jester. “Ezra and Rebel Jester co creator, Fergus Ferguson included me quite a bit in the creative process of the game, showing me sketches and prototypes, giving me feedback, sharing ideas, and hearing my own. The music feels very inspired by this process and also from my experience playing and seeing the game and exploring the different areas.” The exploration of alternate worlds has been a long tradition of The Spookfish’s music as his ability to lull a listener into his drowsy dreamworld has been repeated throughout his catalog.
