Bitchhaüs / Natty Gray – Split

The ever enigmatic, and highly elusive, “Tulsa’s first and last witch house project”, bitchhaüs teams up with the far less elusive and not-so enigmatic, Tulsa sound and noise artist, Natty Gray, for a split release featuring respective live recordings from recent years.

Two representatives of tru Tulsa underground culture from the last decade, the split is two sides of the proverbial Cult Love coin. One seeped in exclusive goth club, late night parties and the other oozing basement show, extreme music outings. bitchhaüs’ side features haunted house soundtracks married with a spattering of different electronic music styles, from dance industrial to witch house. The track spans the full bpm range and exudes brooding, alone-in-the-corner moments as much as it does sweaty, vampire filled nightclub. Slower moments, and downswings will give way and surprise you with neck bobbing upturns that are enough to have anyone staring at the floor while shuffling their feet and exuding a faux sense of disinterest. Dark, misty, and serious yet equally catchy, danceable, and fun.

Natty Gray’s side is a slow build soundscape of the most sinister nature. Constructed from various microcassette field recordings and old cassette deck maintenance equipment, textural sound design and atmosphere is the clear focus. The weight of the surreal, nightmare-esque world he builds grows heavier and heavier with every passing moment, eventually culminating in a hellish, climatic symphony before fading away like the remnants of a strange dream shortly after waking in the night.

Two best friends and two great tastes that go great together, we have no idea why this split and collaboration didn’t happen years ago. But there’s no time like the present! And we are pleased to bring you the modern witch house dance and midsouth hellscapes of bitchhaüs and Natty Gray. Out now on Cult Love Sound Tapes.
