“Grid Lock” is a collection of guitar-based jams from label-founders Dylan Howe and Matthew Pepitone under their fruitful Julius Theory moniker. Almost ambient Americana, the album references shoegaze, noise, drone and even black metal in its varied tones and textures.
Five compositions born out of in-person and virtual collabs, the bulk was recorded live in late 2023 with Howe improvising electric guitar while Pepitone handled realtime effects processing and recording. Additional post-processing and samples were provided by both artists remotely throughout the following year.
Modulating feedback networks and haunting cassette samples collide beneath a Country sky, fizzing into the atmosphere to form perhaps JT’s most outrĆ© album yet. RIYL Jon Collin & Demdike Stare, Fennesz, or Jonny Nash & Suzanne Kraft’s more experimental long-form offerings.
