‘Flowers At The Border’ is a new album of remixes based on originals by London drone pop band The Leaf Library. Commissioned by electronic label Castles In Space to make an EP for their Subscription Library in 2024 (The Long Dead King EP), the band wanted a way of sharing a version of the music beyond the Bandcamp paywall. The result is a suite of remixes by friends and luminaries including Polypores, Mücha, Kristen Gallerneaux, Melinda Bronstein, Galaxy Brain and Tiago De Almeida (plus Matt from the band’s Basic Design project).
Released on the band’s Objects Forever label, the versions here range from clattering modular synth workouts, minimal electronics, looped and twisted drones, through piano house and gentle ambient washes.
Regarding the title, here are a couple of lines on the original track from the Castles In Space EP: “This song contrasts invisible gas, flowing (mostly) freely over borders – even during times of war and between nations otherwise in conflict – with restricted peoples; hemmed in and harrowed, unable to cross. Flowers at the border for those that tried and failed.”
