Coppé – 30rpm (I Wish I Had A Brain)

ince 1995, Japanese vocalist, musician, producer and artist, Coppé (known affectionately as the “legendarily Godmother of Japanese Electronica”) has tirelessly served album after album under her own Mango + Sweetrice Records, inviting countless producers from across the global Electronic music spectrum to collaborate with her along the way, forging one of Japan’s most vibrant cult catalogues and characters.

To mark her momentous thirtieth anniversary, Coppé releases her 19th full, original album; ’30rpm’ – A sprawling collection of all-new collaborations, spread across various formats, each with their own unique running order and various exclusive tracks per format (each curated by Coppé). All-new collaborations with such icons (and old buddies) as Plaid, Luke Vibert and Nikakoi, sit shoulder to shoulder with further new tracks in cahoots with such varied cult and emerging names as DF Tram, Hataken, Marco Schnabl, Earth Is Flat, Luna 9 and Canegon, giving ’30rpm’ Coppé’s most eclectic, colourful and genre-defying album in perhaps decades.

Following dinner with Ian Anderson of the mighty The Designers Republic back in 2024, Coppé poked fun at herself and her frequent over-zealous imagination often overtaking her practical thinking, by shouting out “Ughh, I wish I had a brain!”, to which Ian bounced back “THAT! That’s the title!” And, so it came to be. ’30rpm (I Wish I Had A Brain)’ was settled on, and The Designers Republic (with some bonus, impromptu defacing from iconic artist & illustrator, Patrick Thomas) brought it to life accordingly, to help celebrate thirty whole years of perfectly unconventional collaborations with equally uniquely-minded thinkers.
