Vienna-based artist F. M. Deutsch returns with his second release for his solo project DUUN: the self-titled debut on Urban Lurk. Following a long hiatus after ‘Alles Für Die Katz’ on AMEN records back in 2020 – a first hint at the industrial sound to come – this release finds DUUN ultimately refined and sharpened.
An unhinged mix of midi-programmed industrial black metal, dark ambient and noise hits you straight from the start, and you really never know what happens next, which kinda mirrors the artist’s life recently: after working in tech for the last few years, F. decided to get into studying electro-acoustics and refocus on sound itself.
As for the lyrics, they resemble what F. feels about the current state of affairs: a fractured mix of confusion, resentment, and sustained tension.
F. also just launched the artist collective SCHUTZGEBIET that will handle the digital side of this release. The collective is explicitly anti-modern-internet and decidedly pro cross-genre collaboration, positioning itself as a counter-space rather than a platform. Expect big things to come!
