Fumerolles is the solo project of artist and librarian Frédérique Duval. She creates ambient music where organic soundscapes and sugary melodies collide, exploring the notion of theme through repetition and deconstruction. Using a combination of DIY machines, effects, and synthesizers, she draws influence from new age, library music, and video games. Her albums were released on independent labels such as Hotham Sounds (BC), Kinnta (QC), and Jeunesse Cosmique (QC). She also performs in the duo Preoptic Ridge with her partner Christian Richer (Élément Kuuda), with whom she co-founded Isohyet, a Montreal-based label dedicated to releasing electronic music on cassette.
