When sonic extremes meet meditative depths, an atmosphere is created that is both demanding and hypnotic. ‘coarseness #1’ is the result of a transcontinental collaboration between Malaysian noise tinkerer BA’AH and German ambient/drone artist RSN. What began as an exchange of fragmented sound sketches became a multi-layered work that combines raw energy with subtle structure. In three winding, eruptive soundscapes, distorted frequencies, drone-like surfaces and delicate disturbances condense into an acoustic storm that is far more than pure disturbance/destruction. Behind the harsh surface pulsates an emotional depth – almost organic – that lends each track its own gravity. Instead of chaos for the sake of chaos, coarseness #1 focuses on textured complexity: noise as language, not as noise.

Thomas Rosen studied Media Studies (M.A.) and Theatre Studies (B.A.) At the Ruhr University, Bochum. He is part of the instrumental black drone metal band [ B O L T ], founder of the boutique cassette label Momentarily Records, and host of the radio show Invisible Structures.
