Dogs Versus Shadows returns to Third Kind Records with a concise new collection of experimental soundscapes and beat workouts. The previously dark radiophonic trips of his first Third Kind outing ‘Oscilloghost’ have been replaced here with a cohesive set of experimental lo-fi hip hop and 90’s influenced electronica, at times reminding me of some of the more enigmatic output of Brighton labels like Skint and Spymania.
DVS aka Lee Pylon, is a master of conjuring endless new sound worlds, but on ‘Hollow Headaches’ there is a feeling of British urban exploration and finding colourful inspiration not in the drama of the street like grime or dubstep, but in the everyday grime of ordinary urban spaces like night buses, unfamiliar railway sidings, empty side streets and wet subways. This is one for getting out of the house and putting on your headphones. This tape is sold out.
