Semi Precious – I Lost a Bird

‘I Lost a Bird’ is the new EP from South London–based singer-producer Semi Precious (Guy Baron), a quietly intimate record shaped by movement, limitation, and a period of personal transition.

Much of the EP was written away from the studio—while Baron was walking through Thailand’s Koh Phangan, and later pushing his newborn through South London’s parks. These in-between moments, suspended between responsibility, reflection, and brief pockets of calm, became both the emotional and practical foundation of the record.

Across the EP, Semi Precious moves between intimacy, curiosity, and a subtle surrealism. Picture Us traces the shifting emotional terrain of relationships under the weight of new parenthood, while White Peacock Feeling captures a fleeting sense of calm, drawing on the quiet strangeness of encountering nature in the final moments of a distant, unanchored time before a major life transition. Elsewhere, Baron reworks fragments of naive children’s poetry using AI tools on the title track I Lost a Bird, while Purple Streets draws on AI-generated text to form surreal scenes, transforming simple imagery into something uncanny and unexpectedly affecting.

The EP’s title points to a quiet reckoning with change—the loss of carefree romance and earlier versions of the self, while also suggesting renewal. Through the experience of becoming a parent, Baron reconnects with a more childlike way of seeing, where curiosity and openness return, and maturity and innocence are able to exist side by side. Out now on Jollies Records.
