Kartas – LADO H

‘LADO H’ emerges from eleven years of living in Caiçara, a neighborhood in the city of Piraí, Rio de Janeiro state. Calm lakes outline the Atlantic Forest landscape, cut through by the Dutra highway and its continuous flow between Rio and São Paulo.

The formation of these lakes – the result of the 1967 floods – became a catalyst to reflect on the neighborhood’s recent history and how this memory still permeates the perception of those who live there. Between tragedy and regeneration, the land follows its course, reflecting what we feel and returning its own movements back to us.

The compositions of Marcela (mm) & Zozio stem from this territorial and bodily listening. Words do not settle; they are reorganized by rhythm. Sound transforms what was written. What expands returns to the axis.

The album organizes four themes – Rio Cheio, É Preciso Dormir, Anfíbios and Água de Pedra – interspersed with improvisations recorded live during the KARTAS 4A season at the Teatro Centro da Terra in São Paulo. The core band, formed by Guilherme Paz and Karin Santa Rosa, alternate between bass and electronics, expanding the sonic architecture of the creative nucleus.

LADO H is the result of this geography: water, repetition, flows, memory, and transformation. Out now on Municipal K7.
