Organic Produce is the project of Portland, OR improviser and Bud Tapes label-head Emmet Martin. On ‘Vegetal’, Martin offers five new tracks of warm, droning, soulful free-improvisation paired with electronics. The music feels like a strong reflection of Martin’s work in Portland’s current improvised music scene (see Water Shrews) yet still pays respect to the rich tradition of cosmic freak drone. Flute, bass clarinet and an array of other acoustic sound sources weave between churning oscillation and distorted crunch with maestro Organic Produce at the helm pulling back the layers.
