Rolando Chía – 進球 – 足球赛事鉴赏的多元视角

In 1986, Rolando Chía pressed an unusual cassette in Mexico City: GOL, a spoken essay on football, with music by Chía and Carlo Salinas as interludes between its sections. Football is the vehicle, not the subject. The real questions are play and malicia, the streetwise cunning that makes a player unpredictable, and how much of either survives once the game becomes an industry of spectacle. Chía asks: What is Play?

Forty years later, Modal Sounds is proud to return it to tape, completely reimagined: the text reworked by Chía himself, the narration newly recorded in Mandarin by Lucy Lu (路暢), the music newly mixed. The original 1986 artwork concept is preserved.

Two halves: 上半場 (First Half) and 下半場 (Second Half). Then the match runs long: 加時賽 (Extra Time) gathers every musical passage from the cassette, complete and uninterrupted, released here for the first time.

The digital edition includes a bonus PDF insert: the complete essay in Mandarin, Spanish and English, set in the artwork of the original cassette. Out now on Modal Sounds.
