RAS G’s “Raw Fruit” series was originally conceived as a four-part cassette beat tape collection, with the first volumes released by Leaving Records beginning in 2013. Vols 3 & 4 later arrived on vinyl in 2019 through Leaving Records / Stones Throw, followed by Volumes 5 & 6 via Fat Beats in June 2020, continuing the legacy of one of Los Angeles’ most visionary beat architects.
The “Raw Fruit” concept reflects G’s commitment to wellness, a raw vegetarian lifestyle, and an uncompromising creative process. Recorded at his legendary Spacebase studio from 2013-2017, these are pure stream-of-consciousness productions – raw loops crafted with the SP-303, SP-404, and MPC 2000XL. As G himself described them: “Freestyle beats I make to smoke weed to. I just make ’em, record ’em, and on to the next one. No rules.”
Conceptualized, completed, and sequenced before his transition to the astral plane, “Raw Fruit Vol 7 & 8” continue exactly as Ras G envisioned.
